How our grading works

Watch condition

Our condition rating applies to the aesthetic condition of the watch. Every listing also carries the watchmaker's note, which adds the specific detail behind the headline grade.

Unworn

This watch is like new with no signs of wear.
Some light handling marks may be visible.
Manufacturer stickers and seals may be present.
Vintage watches may show natural ageing.

Excellent

Minimal signs of wear and tear, with only very faint scratches and handling marks to the case and bracelet.
The case and bracelet may have been lightly professionally polished whilst retaining sharp edges.
Crystal may have some very minor imperfections.
Vintage watches show natural ageing with light overall wear.

Very good

Some signs of wear and tear, with light scratches and minor dings to the case and bracelet.
The case and bracelet may have been professionally polished.
Bracelets of older watches may have some stretch.
The crystal may have some minor imperfections.
Vintage watches show signs of overall wear and natural ageing.

Good

Has age-related wear, with scratches or dings to the case and bracelet possible.
The case and bracelet are likely to have been polished.
Bracelet may have stretching.
Crystal may have multiple imperfections.
Vintage watches show signs of overall wear and heavy ageing.

Fair

Has significant age-related wear with obvious scratches and dents.
Has been polished to bring to best possible standard.
Crystal has significant imperfections.
Vintage watches show significant signs of wear and ageing.
